Attending Referee Courses

Below is a list of the different type of Referee Courses offered at Region 177. You may sign up for one of our courses, or select a course at a nearby region that is convenient for you. No matter where you choose to take your course, you must register for the course at AYSOU. (Log into your account, click Volunteer tab, and if you have submitted an application you will find a link that says "AYSOU".)

Region 177 schedules classes starting in July for the Fall season. These are attended by our Region 177 referees, as well as new referees from other regions. Scheduled classes in Region 177 are added to our Region and Area E's calendar.

Note: Region 177 Regional Referee Courses are free for Region 177 referees. While you may attend a course offered by other regions, they may require a fee. These fees are reimbursable by our region, simply obtain a receipt and submit a Reimbursement Form.

Before attending any referee course, you MUST register for the course through AYSOU.

Available Referee Courses

Hybrid Regional Referee Courses

New referees MUST take the Regional Referee Course Companion. Additionally, you MUST complete the AYSOU Regional Referee Course, Safe Haven, SafeSport, Concussion Awareness, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest online modules BEFORE attending the in-person portion.

This is a Hybrid Companion Course. You must complete and pass the Online Regional Referee Companion Course through AYSOU before attending the in-person session.

To register, first complete a Volunteer Regional Referee application through our region. Then log into ayso177.org → Volunteer → AYSOU. You must register through AYSOU or you cannot attend.

This class is intended for refereeing in 8U & 10U divisions, with potential advancement to 12U. Minimum age is 10 years old (12 years old recommended).

The in-person course includes classroom review, referee mechanics training, and updates to the Laws of the Game. Please bring pen and paper to take notes.

Important: You must bring your completed Online Regional Referee Certificate with you to the course or you will not be admitted.

Intermediate Referee Courses

Dates: Contact the Referee Administrator at [email protected] for details.

Location: Region 154 Cypress

What is provided: Training materials, refreshments, light lunch (Saturday), and water.

What to bring: Pen/pencil, paper, optional snacks/drinks. Candidates outside of the host region may be required to pay a $90 prepaid fee.

Pre-registration at AYSOU is REQUIRED.

This course is intended for referees working in 11U/12U and above. You must hold a Regional Referee Badge and have 1–2 seasons of experience.

Prerequisites to be completed prior to arriving to the course:

  • Registered AYSO Volunteer in AYSO 177
  • Safe Haven (within the past 3 years)
  • CDC Concussion Course
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course
  • SafeSport Course
