All-Stars

All-Stars teams are selected through invitation (no tryouts), from a pool of the most skilled players from the Fall Core U10 - U14 teams. All-Star teams typically participate in an Area E tournament as well as other optional tournaments immediately after the Core season, from late November through February. Winners of the Area E tournament advance to the Section 11 Tournament (February), and winners of Section 11 advance to Western States Championships (March).

All-Star Coach Requirements:

  1. Coach certification for the division the coach is applying to be All-Star Coach:
    • U10 Requirement: U10 Coach Certification
    • U12 Requirement: U12 Coach Certification
    • U14 Requirement: Intermediate Certification
  2. Have a child playing in the division that is qualified to be an All-Star.
  3. Be a coach in good standing for the regular fall season of the year applied to be All-Star Coach.

All-Star Coach Selection Process:

  1. All-Star Coaching applications are due per the date outlined by the All-Star coordinator, typically the second week of October. Applications need to be submitted to the All-Star Coordinator via email. The
All-Star Coordinator will compile all necessary information on applicants and present them to the board for a vote.
  2. The board meets to discuss and vote on All-Star coaches.
    1. Selection criteria may include:
      • Does the coach meet the minimum criteria as listed above?
      • What prior coaching experience does this coach have?  Do they embody the principle of positive coaching?
      • How is this coach's communication?  Have they previously been organized and communicated well with their coordinator, team, and parents?
      • Whose child is most likely to be an All-Star?
  3. The All-Star Coordinator extends an invitation to the coach. In the event a coach turns down the invitation, the next most qualified applicant is extended an invitation.

Spring Select

Region 177 does consider teams requesting to play as “Spring Select” teams or tournament teams to play throughout the spring. The players must be registered in Spring Academy, and be in good standing. Teams must also be officially formed in our registration program, and be approved by our Regional Commissioner. Teams must have an appropriately certified Head Coach, and registered referees to be considered.  Spring Select teams typically participate in a spring game season taking place from March through May against other teams in our Area as well as in optional tournaments.  Coaches who are interested in coaching a Spring Select team should reach out to the Regional Commissioner.

EXTRA

The EXTRA program is AYSO's more competitive level of play, where skilled players may tryout and be offered to join the team.  For more information about the program, please see our EXTRA page

Coach Selection:
Interested coaches can apply through our application form.  All applications and associated credentials will be reviewed for each candidate, and presented to the board who will then vote to select a coach for each given division.  The Region will not share any details about teams, etc. during the Team formation process, except with the selection committee. Prospective Coaches MAY NOT contact any potential players or be an active part of the initial team selection/tryout process. Prospective Coaches may observe the tryouts from a 'viewing' area, away from the active tryouts.  Prior Coaching experience, history and compliance with Coach Pledge & P.I.E. will be heavily considered.
