Inclement Weather Policy

General Guidelines
  • Who decides if games or practices are played? Player safety is the top priority. Referees decide if games are safe to play. Coaches decide whether to hold practices unless the city has closed the fields. Always assume games are on unless notified otherwise.  We will provide field status updates via our Instagram account (ayso_region177), our website and/or email. ↑ Back to top
Field Closures
  • Who controls field closures? The City controls field closures.
  • How will we be notified? If fields are closed, the region will notify families via email and social media as soon as information is received. Please do not contact the region asking—updates will be shared proactively. ↑ Back to top
Weather Conditions
  • What happens during excessive heat? If temperatures reach unsafe levels, practices may be canceled via email or due to city field closures. Coaches should use their best judgment when deciding to hold practices. If practicing, ensure frequent breaks and hydration.  During games, additional hydration breaks may be implemented.
  • Do games and practices happen in the rain? Yes, play continues in rain, including wet or muddy fields, unless the fields are closed by the city or associated school.  Practices are at the coach’s discretion.  Games should be assumed to be on unless informed otherwise.
  • What about lightning or thunder? All activities must stop immediately if lightning or thunder is present. Play may resume after 30 minutes without either. Extended delays may result in cancellations.
  • What if there is poor air quality or smoke? If the city closes fields due to air quality, families will be notified. Otherwise, practice decisions are left to the Head Coach’s discretion. ↑ Back to top
