SPRING SOCCER
Region 177 offers players the opportunity to play soccer via the Spring program. Spring programs are available for U06 and older if we have enough player, coach, and volunteer interest. The intra Region U06 Spring Program is similar to the fall season but in a smaller capacity. ALL PLAYERS must sign up on eAYSO if they are interested in playing during the spring season. When signing up online, click on "Signup for other programs" under "Apply for my children to play". All of this can be done on eAYSO. Interested coaches need to contact the Spring Coordinator (information will be on website) if they are interested in coaching.
The AYSO Fall program has a clear objective of open registration, with the aim of providing balanced teams. By contrast Spring soccer is generally a more competitive format and teams are often, but not always, selected with this in mind. As a result, player participation depends on selection by approved coaches. Once selected for a team, the core AYSO philosophy of Everyone Plays applies, and all players must play at least half a game.
Since there are a significantly smaller number of Spring teams, the most popular format for Spring soccer involves participation in a league with teams from other Regions within AYSO Area K, and perhaps even other AYSO Areas. As a result, games will probably involve travel to other areas of Southern California.
Within Area K, there are two levels of Spring teams: competitive and recreational. The competitive teams often consist of teams with multiple All Stars, or may even be an intact All Star team. As a result players with higher skill and competitive tendencies are best suited for this level. Recreational teams are comprised of players that played in the Fall season and were not selected for All Stars. The program may still provide a level of play that is on average higher than that in the Fall season because of the fewer number of players and the level of dedication is higher.
The Spring season kicks off in January with coach approval, followed by a player draft, then practices beginning in February, first games start in the beginning of March and the season concluding before Memorial Day Weekend.
Registration Instructions
AYSO Region 177 will be offering its regular Spring Soccer program from March until May 2012. This program includes play inter-regional at the U6 and U8 levels and at the Area K level for U10 and above.
Registration for players, including any All Star or Flex teams that roll over to Spring Soccer, must be completed online at www.eayso.org. Please follow these instructions, and if you have any questions, please email spring@ayso177.org:
- Login to the site (This is the same login you used to register your child for the Fall season)
- Select "Signup for other program" from the left side menu If the link does not work, choose another option – ie."Print Player Form", and then go back to the main menu and try again)
- Choose "Signup" under Signup for Spring 2012
- Answer "OK" to the question that prompts you.
- Under the "Signup for other programs" heading, you will see in green "Signup successful".
We will NOT be accepting any player registration requests through email to the Registrar or the Spring Coordinator. The last day that we will accept Sign Ups is January 15th. Please also note, that unlike the Fall Season where "Everyone Plays, Spring Soccer is a "select” program in which both coaches and players are selected. Due to the nature of this, not all players who submit their name will be drafted to a team. This is based on the number of coaches we have that express an interest to coach and the number of players that register. We do though to our best effort, work hard to ensure the largest number of players play in the program.
If you would like to coach a team in the spring season you will find the application on line at www.ayso177.org. Follow the instructions for submitting this form. The deadline to submit your form is January 15, 2012.
