Referee Training

All coaches and any parents that are truly interested in the game should consider signing up as a referee volunteer. The training you receive will help you understand the Laws of The Game. This will increase both your enjoyment of the game and allow you to help others (including your own kids) understand it better.

Regional Referee Training classes are at a locations within our region at various times of the year (usually at the beginning of the fall and spring seasons).

An 8 hour class is required for all referee volunteers in divisions U10 and above (the U8 division has a separate - shorter class). All classes are very informative and fun. Pastries, coffee, water an sodas are provided in the morning, with lunch being provided for those who stay for the afternoon sessions. All class materials are provided by the region. Uniforms are also provided free-of-charge for all participants who complete their classes. The only thing we ask of you is to show with a positive 'It's For the Kids' attitude, and we'll do the rest!

Referees are not randomly assigned to games nor do they have to spend the entire day out on the field. As a volunteer, you will work with the referee coordinator to pick the games that work for you.

Also, new referees are not simply thrown into the middle of a game as the Center Ref. After training, you will start out as an Assistant Referee in lower division games. As your experience and confidence builds, you can then move up to higher divisions as well as trying out the Center Ref position.

Being a referee volunteer is a win-win situation. You will not only gain a better understanding and appreciation for the game. It also gives you a chance to help improve the AYSO soccer experience for your own kids as well as others.
